Fascinating! I appreciate your thoughts on stoicism. Imagine a whole philosophy so self-centered that it leaves out enjoyment of the world around us! It condemns wonder and awe as a waste of time. And yet here we are. Well said: "Society works under the assumption that everything is less important than humanity, and that everything must work in our favour. We are asked to be the most productive, the most beneficial, the most useful, and in order to do that we need to make sure everything is streamlined, that everything gets out of our way. The fact is that we are being sold a societal (and I would argue philosophical) ideal that requires a mindset of dominion."

A reader pointed out the irony in my post's title - "what's the best way" is a hallmark of the patriarchal (stoical?) mindset. (She got a prize for noticing that . . . it's hard to spot irony these days when everyone is irony deficient.)

Keep provoking! I'm always eager to add to my understanding / theory of how we got here. I hold out hope that one day, the solution will reveal itself. Well, the solution HAS revealed itself; except there's a massive gap between where we are today -- snared by the supremacy of productivity and time-management -- and renewing our relationship and connections with the wider web of life.

I would love to get out of the loop of productivity - unfortunately I am an early career researcher without enough money to start a homestead!

Ah! It’s such fun to be embedded in systems we know are not in our — or anyone’s — best interest. Cognitive dissonance for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 🤷🏼‍♀️
